Subtle, savoury, sticky malt, light spices and, above all, pears.
Palate
Malty yet nicely bitter. Moreish, slightly savoury toasted malt provides a smooth, full body with a lightly toffeeish character. Fruit comes from fermentation – pears and dried fruits – as well as hops, which add some gentle citrus.
Finish
Dry and malty, with bitterness developing and hops pushing through. There's a lingering fruity sweetness, too.
Comment
A complex and successful, dark amber beer that belies its strength a little. Formerly known as Duchy Originals Winter Ale.
