Rich chocolate with orange-citrus notes emerging. Plenty of biscuity malt.
Palate
Bittersweet, with lots of chocolatey malt flavours. Hops provide an orangey bitterness and a little peppery spice, but there's a light underlying astringency.
Finish
Dry and increasingly bitter with lingering chocolate and more astringency.
Comment
CAMRA's Champion Bottle Conditioned Beer of Scotland last year: a nicely balanced, fruity, ruby-coloured mild, with the only downside the slight
astringency that puckers the mouth. Otherwise, good fresh flavours.
