Nose

Smooth caramel, coffee and nut.

Palate

Instantly full of flavour – nut, chocolate and well-roasted coffee. The texture is smooth but the bitterness perhaps a little too high.

Finish

Deep, lasting and dry, with more hazelnut, caramel and bitter coffee.

Comment

This bright amber-red beer is loaded with flavour for its strength, but seems a bit too contrived and artificial. Saltaire's beers are terrific but this is not one of their best.

Nose

Hazelnuts! Faint coffee (like a hazelnut latte from Starbucks) and a whiff of tobacco-leaf. Lush.

Palate

Balanced, full. Just on the bitter side of the bitter/sweet fence.

Finish

Hazelnutty. Completely dries the inside of your mouth – just a tad too much if anything.

An light amber coloured porter with an interesting flavour profile. I really like this one, but then I also like hazelnut lattes from Starbucks...
