Sweet and orangey at first but also musty, tart and cheesy, with an almost celery-like spiciness.
Palate
Sharp, electric, gum-shrinkingly tart with a wild, musty personality and prominent toasted nut flavours.
Finish
An acetic bite on the swallow leaves the throat tingling. The finish is then dry and lightly nutty with a cidery character and some orange notes emerging.
Comment
A substantial challenge for the uninitiated and a good introduction to what oude gueuze is all about.
