Nose
Winey, red berry fruit over lightly biscuity, chocolatey dark malts.
Palate
Bittersweet, with lots of dark malt richness. Tart winey fruit, and also a hint of tropical fruit, provide a contrast to the chocolatey grains. Lovely airy texture.
Finish
The roasted malt comes to the fore in the dry, coffeeish, nutty, bitter chocolate finish.
Comment
Complex – far more than a straight roasted-grain-dominated porter – but easy-drinking, despite its obvious strength. Good light body, too, and splendid corked-bottle presentation.

Tasting Note : Very deep brown almost black with a slight ruby hue... Chocolate malt, vanilla and a faint hop character... Sugary coffee and a hint of treacle on the nose... Dark berry fruit prunes... Rich, quite thick at first but not overly so... Lean... Slightly burnt toast... Vanilla and citrus notes whisper in the background... Finish gives way to more dark berries, chocolate, woody notes... An easy drinking but complex porter... Mellow... A brilliantly composed beer... Very drinkable...
