Nose
A little bit biscuity and smoky, with a whiff of leather and a suggestion of almond, plus traces of tropical fruit and sultanas.
Palate
Bittersweet and tingly. Soft dark malt flavours are overlaid by dried fruits, hints of pear, liquorice and chocolate, plus a peppery warmth, but the mouthfeel is light.
Finish
Not too heavy. It's sweet, warming, drying and rather thick, and it leaves a glow on the lips.
Comment
A potent, near-black beer from an enterprising Norwegian microbrewery, with enough warmth to keep out a polar winter.

Nose
Citrus and treacle over a meaty undercurrent, like roast beef.
Palate
Woah! There's a lot going on here. Dark chocolate. Pepper. Help I'm lost.
Finish
A bit too much happening – I can't pick out the flavours.
Comment
Looks like Marmite, tastes like I don't know what. For Norse gods only, not Southern softies like me.
