Full malt: chocolate, treacle toffee and coffee. Light peppery hop resins.
Palate
Rich and malty but not sweet. More treacle toffee and chocolate at first, with a good, immediate peppery-hop counterattack and a little alcoholic tingle.
Finish
Drying and malty, gradually becoming more bitter. Still more treacle toffee.
Comment
A full and satisfying strong brown ale, made in part with caramelised brown sugar. Perhaps a touch too strong for its own good: the alcohol detracts a little from the complex dark malt character.
